OUTLOOK — By Aziza Rashid — I have no words to express my condolences to the mother of the eight children who died in al Suwaiq accident. It was beyond the level of expression and words. As in any other country there are new road users every day in our country too; some are still training and others using their cars for the first time after getting the licence.
This licence is not a document which gives immunity to the holder allowing him or her to kill people and forgive their sins. It will not sent him to heaven if he dies on the road.

Perhaps it was the first love story that ended as a tragedy and widely discussed among the public. The girl tried to defend her right to marry the person of her choice and this brought her in a collision course with her family members who stubbornly denied her this simple right.

The family constitutes the basic building block of society. It plays a vital role in keeping alive and transmitting the cultural heritage from one generation to another. It provides a stable and unfailing shelter. It is an institution that has stood the test of time through the ages.
These random thoughts flitted through my mind in the context of the International Day of Families being observed today, May 15.
