The Embassy of Japan together with BankMuscat presented a kimono themed fashion show entitled “Japanese Elegance in Muscat — the Beauty of Kimono” as part of the 40th National Day celebrations.
The show which was held at Grand Hyatt
Muscat for a women only audience showcased the works of a young Japanese designer, Tetsuya Mizutani, who is renowned for his innovative talent in transforming Japanese traditional costume kimono into evening gowns, wedding dresses and stage costumes of contemporary design.

The designer who had made an advanced trip to Muscat in April to study the local fashion trends and the surroundings designed a collection of around 40 dresses exclusively for this show, including European style evening gowns, Arabic jalabiyas and
abayas made with fine kimono fabrics.
The designer was accompanied by an entourage of artistic talents including a budding young female vocalist, Madoka, who added a theatrical effect to the fashion event, as well as an accomplished stage director who
also produced the music and the visual images specially made for this show.
The models were cast and choreographed by a local modelling agency.
The show was a huge success with the attendance exceeding the capacity of original seating arrangement.
The show was followed by a sales/order event on Sunday, also at Grand Hyatt Muscat. A wide range of kimono fabrics were available at the event for the clients to choose for their made-to measure dress orders.
The Embassy of Japan is delighted to have this opportunity to introduce Japanese concept of beauty and elegance as well as the art of craftsmanship represented in kimono to Omani women who, like their Japanese counterparts, appreciate traditional values in their fashion and lifestyle.
It also hopes that the innovative approach of the Japanese designer will inspire Omani young talents in fashion sector hence to promote further cultural exchange between Japan and Oman to enhance strong ties between the two countries.
