By His Eminence Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad al Khalili -
Repentance is a very important feature in Islam. One should repent in all circumstances even if he performs good deeds and avoids evil deeds. Allah the Exalted encourages Muslims to repent and say:
“O you, who believe, turn to Allah with sincere repentance! It may be that our Lord will expiate from you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise) — the Day when Allah will not disappoint the Prophet (Muhammad) and those who believe with him. Their Light will run forward before them and (with their Records- Books of deeds) in their right hands. They will say: Our Lord! Keep perfect our Light for us (and do not put it off till we cross over Sirat (a slippery bridge over the Hell) safely) and grant us forgiveness. Verily, you are able to do all things”.
People should conclude their daily deeds with Repentance. Repentance means regret for committing mistakes, avoiding them and intending not to perform any evil deeds ever. It also means asking for forgiveness from Allah and submission to Him.
Allah’s blessings are too many and we should think about them. He accepts repentance of people if they show regret no matter what they have done.
Allah Says O Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: verily, Allah forgives all sins. Truly He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
