Nizwa varsity offers 400 scholarships

In celebration of 40th National Day - NIZWA — In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the blessed renaissance led by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Nizwa University has offered 400 partial and full scholarships. The university announced yesterday that Diploma holding graduates of general education for the year 2009-2010 may compete for the same by applying through the Higher Education Admission Centre. Dr Ahmed bin Khalfan al Rowahi, Vice-Chancellor of Nizwa University, said the decision to offer the scholarships is an expression of gratitude for His Majesty’s continuous grants since the founding of the university.

The scholarships cover fully diploma programmes in the Colleges of Science and Art, Engineering and Architecture, Economics, Administration and Information Technology and Pharmacology and Nursing. The scholarships may be automatically transferred for acquisition of bachelor’s degree on certain conditions. He said the university offers 25 full diploma and admission requires that contestants acquire above 94 per cent and no less than ‘B’ grade on major course and an undertaking to retain a cumulative rate not less than 2.5.

Nizwa University also offers 50 partial scholarships. A scholarship of this type covers 70 per cent of the programme fees. Twenty-five full scholarships which are 100 per cent funded should meet certain requirements, such as having a general score of 94 per cent or more and not less than ‘B’ in the major course and an undertaking to keep the accumulated rate not less than 2.5. The applicants for the 50 partial scholarships, for which 70 per cent of their fees is funded, should have got between 90-93.9 per cent, not less than ‘B’ in the major of study and should maintain an accumulated level of not less than 2.4, he noted.

The university also offers 100 partial scholarships, of which 50 per cent of the academic fees are funded. The applicant should have general score of 86-89.9 per cent, not less than C in major and maintain a cumulative rate not less than 2.3. He pointed out that the university will provide 225 partial scholarships of which 30 per cent of the academic fees are funded. The applicant should have 86-85.9 per cent, not less than C in the major of study and maintain a cumulative rate not less than 2.0. Dr Al Rowahi also extended heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty on the advent of Eid al Fitr and the 40th Anniversary of the glorious Renaissance. — ONA
