Syria, Libya consider new economic links to Africa

Tue, 07 September 2010

Damascus — Syrian President Bashar al Assad met with Libyan Foreign Minister Moussa Kossa yesterday to discuss trade and political ties between Arab and African nations.
Among the key issues discussed, officials with the Syrian presidency said, were ways for Arab states to utilise Libya’s position in North Africa and economically expand into the continent. Kossa brought with him an invitation for Al Assad from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to attend the Arab-African Summit scheduled for early October in Tripoli.
The meeting also looked at inter-Arab relations and ways to improve Arab unity in international economic relations, said a statement from Damascus.
