By Yahya al Na’abi - MUSCAT — Seventy seven days left for the opening of Muscat Expressway, which is considered as one of the giant projects that would be opened to coincide with the Sultanate’s 40th National Day. The Muscat Expressway comes in implementation of Royal directives to build a basic structure to boost and ease the life of the individual.

The Muscat Municipality lent great attention and exerted relentless efforts to design the Muscat Expressway in accordance with the best international specifications in high-speed road building. The Muscat Expressway contains high bridges which match the standard of world bridges as to the perfection of design and quality. As a divided highway, it encompasses three tracks for traffic in each side in addition to high interchanges that would allow a smooth flow without interruption of traffic.

There are also additional extensions from the Expressway whose length reaches 112 km. The project works to connect several wilayats with each other and open new horizons for areas unfamiliar before for both citizen and residents. The Muscat Expressway is an important alternative that alleviates traffic congestion and connects Muscat with Al Batinah through a vital road that also leads to the interior and Sharqiyah regions. The Muscat Expressway also reveals a new architectural outlook of the city.

The Expressway will assist in the country’s economic development process for the fact that it joins roads that are leading to the industrial areas in Ghala and Rusayil as well as some other places where numerous private establishments and commercial companies are located.
