Fish prices up on demand

Wed, 01 September 2010

MUSCAT — Consumers say fish prices in the Sultanate have increased during Ramadhan with the rise in demand and due to dwindling stocks with export companies. More buyers show up at fish markets around the Sultanate during this period. Around 85 per cent of the fish in the markets is supplied by traditional fishermen using small boats. Analysts say that fishermen and transporters play a role in determining the prices. Sources say inadequate catch compared to high demand could be one reason for the rise in prices.
